The Old English period is a literary period that took place between 428-1066
The type of English that existed during this period is not similar to the kind of English we today know of. The grammar was different as well as the pronunciation. Before Old English was introduced, England was under the rule of the Roman Empire. Latin was the language of power and various Celtic languages were spoken among common people.

In more than 3,000 lines, it tells the fictitious story of the hero Beowulf from southern Sweden who fights monsters and dragons in order to bring safety to his own and other people. Sadly he dies later on. It commonly cited as one of the most important scripts and works of the old English literature. The author and the certain date of the manuscript are unknown. In 2007 a Hollywood movie was released based on the manuscript, with actors like Angelina Jolie.
Old English also is known as Anglo-Saxon, was spoken in the early middle ages and is the earliest dated form of English language that was spoken in England, as well as in parts of Scotland. Around year 450 invaders settled down in Celtic England. Therefore leading to Germanic tribes Angles, Saxons and Jutes speaking various Germanic dialects in the same country. In addition to the great impact from the newly arrived Vikings who were the first to show a sign of reading and writing. These characteristics revolutionized the current world, advancing it further. The discovery contributed to constructing a society with town names, as well as expanding the vocabulary.
