During this period was the English language was different from the way it is today, for example different pronacation and grammar. Before Old English was introduced, England was under the rule of Roman Empire.
Old English or anglo-saxon is the earliest historical form of the English language, spoken in England and southern and eastern Scotland in the early Middle Ages. One of the most prevalent West Germanic languages was English (old english) during this time and English had West Germanic dialect.
“Beowulf” is the oldest epic written in Old English dated between 8th-11th century. The story of Beowulf takes place in southern Sweden. Beowulf fights monsters and dragons in order to bring safety to his own and to other people. "Beowulf" may be the oldest surviving long story in Old English and is commonly cited as one of the most important works of Old English literature.
