Reign of Peter the Great in Russia (jan 1, 1696 – jan 1, 1725)
Description:
Peter I, know as Peter the Great, became the sole ruler of Russia in 1696. While he was czar he made many reformations to russian government and policies. He traveled to Europe to learn more about western culture and began integrating European ideas into Russian society when he returned. Russia had no easily accessible sea ports until Peter I ordered St Petersburg to be built. Peter the great died in 1725 having accomplished much of his goals in his short reign.
