Description:

Wished to be seen as a conscientious monarch and play an active role in politil life. He accepted his limited role as constitutional monarch but he used his powers of patronage to influence Parliament on issued about which he felt strongly.

Patronage: the right to give privileges or make appointments. The king had the power of patronage over many important appointments, which gave him considerable political influence. He could in theory fill the Parliament with men who would support his policy. His minister also had limited powers of patronage to build up their support in the Commons or in the country.
