English Civil War (may 29, 1642 – feb 28, 1649)
Description:
Charles I’s reign was dominated by fights with parliament, ultimately culminating in the English Civil War. Even as he tried to raise funds to squash religious rebellions, he found himself at odds with Parliament, resulting in his dismissal of parliament. With a Catholic uprising, he found himself unable to raise an army, and left to raise his own while Parliament raised the New Model Army. Charles was defeated, and executed, which lead to the Puritan Protectorate, led by Oliver Cromwell.
