The Pueblo Revolt (aug 10, 1680 – aug 21, 1692)
Description:
The most widespread and violent of the several uprisings among the Pueblo communities during the Spanish colonial period. The 1690 revolt was largely instigated by El Popé, a Tewa Pueblo medicine man and mystic. After the death of El Popé, the Spanish took advantage of the unrest and gradually resumed control of the lost territory.
