Good Friday Agreement (apr 10, 1998 – dec 2, 1999)

Description:

The Good Friday Agreement, or also known as the Belfast Agreement, was an enormous political movement that made progress for peace in Northern Ireland. Before this agreement, the idea of any peace acts were only in talks had any influence. On April 10th 1998, the agreement that would be signed would help bring an end to the wave of violence during the time period called “The Troubles”. During this period, the population was split based on aspects of religion and also political parties. The goal of the agreement was to have both the Unionists and Nationalists come together in a new group called the Northern Ireland Assembly. The Good Friday agreement was important to the culture at this time because it created a government where both Unionists and Nationalists could compromise to both co-exist peacefully instead of fighting one another.
