Description:

First Battle of El Alamein, which was fought in Egypt between Axis forces of the Panzer Army Africa and Allied forces of the Eighth Army. The British prevented the second advance by the Axis forces into Egypt. The Battle of El Alamein marked the culmination of the North African campaign between the forces of the British Empire and the German-Italian army. The Battle of El Alamein was primarily fought between two of the outstanding commanders of World War Two, Montgomery, who succeeded the dismissed Auchinleck, and Rommel. The Allied victory at El Alamein lead to the retreat of the Afrika Korps and the German surrender in North Africa in May 1943.
