The Mexican government passed new laws in response to the Mier y Teran's report:
* Outlaw further immigration from the United States
* Encouraged European and Mexican settlers
* Added new taxes to goods coming from the United States.
* Established new forts and sent new soldiers
* Prevented Americans to live close to the border with United States
* Prevented additional slaves from Africa being brought into Texas
