Description:

The Battle of Midway was a decisive naval battle in the Pacific Theater of WW2. This battle was fought almost entirely with aircraft, in which the United States destroyed Japan's first line carrier strength and most of its best trained Naval pilots. This battle took place on an island located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean called the Midway and was considered an important strategic island for Japan at war. The Japanese formulated a plan to sneak up on the U.S. forces and destroy them. However, American code breakers had intercepted a number of Japanese transmissions. The Americans knew the Japanese plans and prepared their own trap for the Japanese. This resulted in the victory of the United States, damaning the Japanese Navy. This event was an important turning point in the Pacific Battles as the victory allowed the United States and its allies to move into an offensive position in the war.
