THE GOLDEN AGE (jan 1, 1660 – jan 1, 1730)

Description:

At this time, Oliver Cromwell, the current leader of England, has a Western Design to attack the Spanish colonies. In this, they take hold of Jamaica, and Port Royal becomes a pirate haven. The term Golden Age was not created until the 20th century, and gives us a glorified romanticized view on this age. At this point, most people from the Seadog era have died (John Hawkins, Francis Drake, King Phillip, Queen Elizabeth, etc.), and this causes a truce between England and Spain. The truce came because it became very expensive.
