Description:
Queen Elizabeth I (the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn) claimed the throne in 1558 and held it for 44 years. She established Protestantism in England and sunk the Spanish Armada in 1588. Her reign is sometimes called Golden Age or Elizabethan England. It was an era of peace and prosperity when the arts had a chance to blossom with Elizabeth's support.
