American Revolution (apr 19, 1775 – sep 3, 1783)

Description:

The American revolutionary war began in 1775 however the events that have lead up to the war are also considered to be part of the revolution. The Acts (such as the Sugar Act, Tea Act and the Stamp Act) and taxation placed on the American colonies were unfair, did not benefit the colonies and this upset the American people and the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea party fueled the fire that was already burning. The congress made requests to the King and Britain to dismiss the acts and unfair taxation, when these were denied George Washington was chosen to lead the militia men—which would later turn into an entire Army. In 1776 the congress declared independence and Thomas Jefferson with help of others designed and them presented the Declaration of Independence. USA was born when the congress adopted the declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. After the Revolutionary war had been fought and won with the help of there countries but mainly France the Treaty of Paris was signed. This acknowledged the United States of America as an independent country with its own territory, government and most importantly freedom.

The American Revolution, like the french revolution, it was also influenced by the Enlightenment period. The Boston tea Party and the result after the Boston Massacre showed those in the community and those in the colonies that individualism should be embraced to a higher extent than collectivism is. Sometimes governments will abuse their power and not respect individualist principles. Overthrowing the government is an idea of classical liberalism, so is restricting the government's power over the people. The Declaration of Independence emphasizes on that. It emphasizen on liberty, a principle of liberalism and it succeeds in the promotion of liberalism by granting freedom to all the colonies.
