Description:

Stephen A Douglas will propose this in congress. Important and influential in congress. Trying to keep the union together. 1813-1861. Illinois Senator. Created the Nebraska-Kansas Act, ran for president against Lincoln, Wanted to expand westward and give Chicago the upperhand of having the railroad. He destroyed the Compromise of 1850 and The Missouri Compromise of 1820, indirectly created the Republican Party, with his Nebraska-Kansas act, which further sectionalized the north and south territories. Kind of understands what the South is saying. He proposes letting citizens in that territory if they want slavery or not. Let the people choose what they want.
