Humanity "Survives" (aug 21, 2043 – nov 2, 2055)
For an entire decade, the human race can do little more than hold on. Many take shelter in improvised heated shelters constructed in city subways or country log cabins. As acid rains and ash-snow take their toll on the natural world, animals die in their hundreds of millions and become scarce, as do their derived products. Agriculture is reduced to small greenhouses. Any remaining semblance of governments break down for good, and the scale of communities goes down to the familial or small village level. Tribalism sets in, with each defending his own patch of inhabitable land, although interaction with the outside world becomes extremely limited. Some governmental organizations remain, concentrating the vestiges of pre-crisis technology and knowledge in select restricted areas, keeping their limited populations of specialists and experts together in tightly knit groups.
