North West Company (jan 1, 1763 – jan 1, 1821)
Description:
North West Company grew out of Montreal and after the American revolution is forced to expand into the Northwestern territories. NWC provided great competition to HBC in the fur trade, which restructured Indigenous markets and societies until its merger with the HBC in 1821. Both NWC and HBC caused the colonial settlement expansion into the West. This gave rise to Fur Trade Society and Metis.
