Edict of Nantes (feb 17, 1598 – dec 6, 1598)
Description:
Signed by Henry IV of France after the French Wars of Religion ended with his coronation. The edict gave French Huguenots the ability to retain their beliefs as long as it was kept within certain cities and was practiced in private; Calvinism was prohibited from Paris. Although this is not classified as religious freedoms, it is the beginning of religious tolerance.
