English Civil War (feb 11, 1642 – apr 2, 1649)
Description:
The English Civil War was a conflict between Parliament and King Charles I over the balance of power within the government. In the end, Charles I was beheaded and England, led by Oliver Cromwell, became a republic called the Commonwealth. The English Civil War fits with the SP theme because it led to Parliament having the most control of the country, thus ending absolutist rule in England and establishing a constitutional monarchy.
