Council of Trent (jan 8, 1545 – feb 28, 1563)
Description:
The Council of Trent was created by the Roman Catholic Church to counter the Protestant Reformation by reaffirming Catholic beliefs. It revitalized Catholicism throughout Europe during a time when the authority of the church was being questioned. The Council of Trent fits with the SP theme because it was instituted to spread Catholism during a time of social upheaval and religious tensions.
