English Civil War (aug 22, 1642 – sep 3, 1651)
Description:
The English Civil War was fought between supporters of King Charles I, the Royalists, and supporters of Parliament. It ended with the execution of Charles I and replaced absolute monarchy with Commonwealth. Ultimately, the war discredited "divine right" of kings and created a balance of powers, giving Parliament much more power and decreasing the power of the crown.
