Roman Republic Ends (jan 1, 60 BC – jan 1, 45 BC)
Description:
In 60 BC, the First Triumvirate formed, consisting of Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. While the men attempted to share power equally, this arrangement ultimately failed, as it resulted in a Civil War that started in 49 BC and ended in 45 BC. Caesar's side won the war and he declared himself dictator for life, effectively ending the republic aspect of the Roman Empire.
