30 Years' War (may 18, 1618 – jun 18, 1648)
Description:
The 30 Years' War was the last of the major religious wars and the first continent-wide war involving the major European powers. German princes sought autonomy from the Holy Roman Empire, France sought to limit the power of the Habsburgs and Sweden and Denmark hoped to strengthen their hold over the Baltic region. It fits in the SP theme because the war impacted many European polities and the balance of power in Europe.
