Copernicus, Nicolas (feb 19, 1473 – may 21, 1543)
Description:
Nicolas Copernicus was the first European that wrote a book challenging the scientific principles that were currently accepted at the time. Though he did not do so in an aggressive way, more saying that this is a possibility, he got other scientists (natural philosophers) thinking about what else could also be wrong. This act of challenging current scientific authority would eventually lead to the Scientific Revolution.
