Description:
He was the first minister of the French crown, under the rule of Louis XIII. He worked to consolidate the power of the monarchy by reducing the power of the nobles and strengthening the military power. Under his guidance, France also worked to repress protestantism by taking over an important protestant city and supressing their government, he only worked to supress protestantism in France, not the rest of the world. He also supported the Habsburgs enemies and in 1631 he signed a treaty with Lutheran king Gustavus Adolphus promising French support against the Habsburgs in the 30 years war.Added to timeline:
