Description:
James II became king after the death of Charles. He violated the Test Act by appointing Roman Catholics to positions in the army, universities, and the local government. While in court, the judges favored the king. Opened new Catholic churches, schools, and tracts promoting Catholicism. By granting religious freedom to everyone, he broadened his base of support with Proestant dissenters.
