Historical Significance: The Battle of Shiloh was fought on April 6 and 7, 1862, and resulted in a Union victory. With more than 23,000 casualties, Shiloh was the first battle of the Civil War that saw large-scale death and suffering.
Number of deaths:More than 13,000 of Grant's and Buell's approximately 62,000 troops were killed, wounded, captured or missing. Of 45,000 Confederates engaged, there were more than 10,000 casualties.

The Union Army won the Battle of Shiloh forcing the Confederate Army to withdraw from the battlefield.
