Description:
The Akkadians lived near the north of Sumer near the Tigris and Euphrates river. Though they lived North of Sumer they were not Sumerians. But they lived in peace for many years. But they peace was broken in the 2300s BC. When Sargon sought to extend the Akkadian empire. He built a new capital named Akkad near what is now Baghdad. Sargon was the first ruler to have a permanent army to launch a series of attacks against the neighboring kingdoms. Sargon's soldiers destroyed all the city's. He also conquered northern Mesopotamia finally bringing the region under his rule.
