"2002–08 Lecturer, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
• Initially hired as Adjunct Professor in department; offered full-time lectureship in 2003.
• Taught three undergraduate courses per semester on variety of topics, including Introduction to Administra- tion of Justice; Introduction to Criminal Investigation; Police in America; Community Policing and Problem Solving; Criminal Justice in Film; Psychology and the Legal System.
• Between 2003–08, carried out extensive research project through grant from the U.S. Department of Justice with two colleagues. Research focused on developing tools to reduce the number of dangerous altercations between police officers and the public.
• Research also evaluated standard training for officers and potential improvements to training, ultimately resulting in the development of “A Better Way,” a comprehensive training program for state and local police designed to improve the safety of law enforcement interactions with the public.
• To date, 227 state and local law enforcement agencies have adopted “A Better Way” as part of their standard training protocol.
• Published six peer-reviewed articles on use of force and training to improve law enforcement interactions with the public."
