1788 - Coffers Run Dry (jan 1, 1788 – dec 31, 1788)

Description:

During this period, the first revolt occurs on the Day of Tiles. Representatives congregate, and reveal to the public that the royal treasury has run empty. Government debts are suspended, swiss banker Jacques Necker becomes the minister of finance, and a 75 million loan is received by the french bankers and businessmen, given that the Estates General will have full power to reform the system. Necker soon announces that the representation of the Estate will be doubled, and that nobles and clergymen will be allowed on (over the opposition of the nobles).
