J.J. Thomson (jan 1, 1897 – jan 1, 1898)

Description:

Thomson, an English physicist, discovered in 1897 that atoms were composed of smaller particles than was originally anticipated, that Dalton was wrong in his theory and that atoms are indeed divisible. Thomson discovered that atoms are made of negatively charged particles dispersed among a positively charged atom, creating the infamous "plum pudding" atomic analogy. Thomson's research in cathode rays also introduced the electron into the scientific dictionary, which furthered the understanding of his view on the atom's structure.
