Anglo Saxon/Old English Period (mar 29, 450 – apr 16, 1066)
Description:
Anglo Saxons first came to Britain at the invite of a Celtic king and quickly took over. They spoke Old English and used epics, elegies, and alliterative poetry to capture their culture and values.
The Anglo Saxons lived simply, but many features of their lives would serve as the basis for English culture to come. They had kings and loyal thanes and converted to Christianity, leaving a legacy of monarchy and Christian faith behind.
