1954 - 1956
- Abandoned any trace of representation in their use of automatic drawing
attacked various aspects of Canadian life and culture, including the Catholic church which had tremendous social influence on Quebec at the time
- Historical context:
- Canada post WWII: affected by WWII but more about the internal conflicts, the oppressive religious atmosphere and the corruption of the government, lead to the Quiet Revolution, both artists left Canada because their art was not recognized or appreciated
