Akkadians (sep 20, 4992 BC – jan 1, 2340)
Description:
The Akkadians lived just north of Sumer. They lived close to the Sumers yet they lived in peace for many years. But in 2300s BC Sargon wanted to extend the Akkadian empire he built a new capital Akkad near the Euphrates river which is now Baghdad. He was the first ruler to have a permanent army. He used that army to launch a series of attacks against the neighboring kingdoms. Sargons soliders defeated all the city-states of Sumer.
