Description:

Asian immigrants came to California in large numbers around the time of the Gold rush. Large economic opportunity was available in gold in this time period, and it gave them a need to come to the country to start a new life. Others came to escape the political climate of those countries. However, they faced many challenges, such as racism. White Americans believed that they were too different to be able to assimilate into American society.
