Description:

Vladek and Shivek, his friend from before the war, find an abandoned home in the area where they were last held captive. In this home they found clothes to wear, cows for milk and chickens for meat. A few days after they settle in, the Americans arrived. Vladek and Shivek's house is made to be part of the American base camp, and the two negotiate with the Americans to continue to live there. Vladek and Shivek worked for the Americans, cleaning the base and making their beds. They liked Vladek especially as he spoke English.
