Fall of Berlin (apr 1, 1945 – may 2, 1945)

Description:

After successive military defeats, Russian troops attack and successfully overcome German defences in the German capital. Roosevelt, the US president, allows the Russian force to capture the German capital, feeling that risking more Allied casualities is simply not worth it at this point. Despite this, the capture of Berlin was a significant symbolic victory that demonstrated the destruction of the German Reich and the superiority of the Russian military. It also led to Berlin becoming part of the Russian sphere of influence, a key part of Cold War hostilities.
