The French and Indian War (jan 1, 1754 – jan 1, 1763)
Description:
The French and Indian War was a war fought between the several alliances in the mid-1700s. The alliances were between the British, the Iroquois Confederacy and the American colonies. The French were allied with the Algonquins and Hurons. The war began after the British were defeated at Ft. Duquesne. In the early stages of the war, the French and their allies were wreaking havoc on the British tribes. The turning point came when the British appointed William Pitt the Elder as the leader of the war efforts. The British started finding success. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris which allowed Great Britain to gain control of all land East of the Mississippi and Florida, from France and Spain respectively. Spain also gained control of the Louisiana Territory and New Orleans from the French.
