Third Peak of Immigration (feb 26, 1890 – jan 1, 1920)
Description:
22.3 million immigrants came from Southern and Eastern Europe like Italy and Russia. Their native countries contained a scarcity of farmland, a lack of jobs, and religious persecution. They came to America looking for the freedom of religion and more economic opportunities. Also, sailing ships were replaced by steamships and made traveling by water much quicker.
