Song Dynasty (jan 1, 960 – jan 1, 1279)
Description:
The Song Dynasty is known as one of the most brilliant and fruitful periods of Chinese history. During this reign, China was split into the Northern and Southern Song. This period saw the emergence of an examination system used to determine who gained a government position, though it did not succeed in eliminating wealth-based barriers. Additionally, women were more repressed than at almost any point in Chinese history. China was modernized and trade flourished, but internal division weakened it and it couldn't hold up against the Mongol invasion.
