The Dust Bowl (nov 8, 1933 – dec 22, 1940)
Description:
A geological (and economic) disaster which brought about a period of drought in the central farmland of the USA. The removal of grasses which trapped the dust of the topsoil, combined with mechanical overfarming, produced enormous dust storms, rendering much of the land infertile. The result was massive migration of smallholders across the country, many to California, which remained fertile.
