Shays's Rebellion (jan 1, 1786 – jan 1, 1787)
Description:
Captain Daniel Shays, a Massachusetts farmer and Revolutionary War veteran, leads other farmers in an uprising against high state taxes, imprisonment for debt, and lack of paper money. The rebel farmers stop the collection of taxes and force the closing of debtors' courts. When Shays and his followers attempt to seize weapons from the Springfield armory, the state militia of Massachusetts break Shays's Rebellion.
