Christianity becomes the official state religion of the Roman Empire (feb 27, 380 – jul 11, 476)
Description:
Christianity in the Roman empire was persecuted up until the council of Nicaea. On June 19, 325 B.C.E the emperor Constantine intervened in the religious conflict. In order to smooth things over he invited over 300 representatives of the Chrstian church. This made life better for the Christians and established a religuos peace throughout the empire. On Feburary 27, 380 B.C.E the Eastern Roman emperor Theodosius I signed a decree in the precense of the Western Roman emperor, Valentinian II, that made Christianity the official state religion.
