The Mauryan Dynasty lasted from 322 B.C.E to 185 B.C.E and saw its border stretch all the way from India to Iran. This empire came into being when Chandragupta Mauryan recruited an army and marched upon the Magadha kingdom. During this time the king was the head of the state and controlled the military, executive, judiciary, and legislature.2.2
