Class System Changes (jan 1, 1801 – jan 1, 1900)
Description:
With the Industrial Revolution bringing change, it also changed the way a class system was established. The idea of "social classes" began to fade away and a system based on wealth began to emerge. Changes to the class structure so that people could not be born into a better situation in life was a key feature in liberalism.
Changes in the class system contributed to the development of classical liberalism in that it removed the rigid hierarchy that individuals could not work towards a better situation. In its place, a system based off of wealth was established because liberalism valued private property and economic freedom. This gave people greater opportunities to become wealthy and join a higher economic class.
