The British new wave resulted in the production of dramas that present social realism, These were otherwise known as 'kitchen sink dramas'. Spanning from 1959 to 1963, The British New Wave covered controversial and socially relevant ideologies.
They were stylistically dramatic to send a certain message across about society. These kitchen sink drams would cover subjects such as poverty, racism and mental health and used dramatic conventions like close-ups to portray themes like sorrow or anger to send their message about the controversial subjects.
