MEDIAVAL PERIOD (jan 2, 401 – jan 1, 1301)

Description:

Resurgence of Christianity faced with the philosophy that prevailed in the Roman Empire. The Hellenistic period is interrupted by the victory of Rome.
In the cultural sphere, Latin and Greek coexist as languages of philosophy, but few people knew how to read and write and even fewer were bilingual.
The fact that the Greek language favours philosophy, in fact in the Empire Greek schools are prolonged and developed. The most important cultural event in Western history was the appearance and expansion of Christianity, that is, its definitive triumph as the religion of the Mediterranean world.
The first contact between Christianity and Greek philosophy was hostile. Little by little the Greek philosophy was assimilated by a good part of the Christian apologists, who take from the Greeks, theoretical concepts and categories (vocabulary, technical terms, language, etc. ).
Christianity introduces God into the history of the human being as its creator, as provident and as man into history, in a precise place and at a precise moment. In this way God is the center of human history, which is a novelty, unthinkable within Greek philosophy.
