Frederick William Great Elector (Prussia) (oct 29, 1640 – sep 7, 1688)

Description:

Demanded loyalty of the Junkers. He gave the junkers full control of their serfs in return. He wanted a good army.

To effectively consolidate power into absolutism, Frederick William GR8 elector had to do some manipulating to beat out the checks to his power.

Problem Response
Church problems- Toleration to all protestants
Nobility(Junkers)- Cooperation. He allowed them complete control over the peasantry if they were loyal to him in politics ansd military and also pay a tax
Rep Bodies- Reduced their power w/ taxation by decree(king has power to tax any way he likes)
Education- COMPULSORY public education. Enforces discipline.
