• Italy invaded Abyssinia in 1935 – League employed partial embargo – oil exports not embargoed – Britain and France entered secret negotiations with Italy to resolve conflict – LON bypassed – Britian and France criticised – Italy unpunished• Thus, LON unable to punish Italy and forced them to withdraw → Italy continued to threaten neighbours → no international peace
