-Eliminated Huguenot's political & military rights but preserved their religious rights
-Got rid of troublesome nobles
-started intendant system
-centralized state government
-"Where the interests of the state are concerned, God absolves actions which, if privately committed, would be a crime"
-Supported enemies of the Hapsburgs
-Developed French academy (intellectual advances)
