Edward I Longshanks (nov 22, 1272 – jul 7, 1307)
Description:
son of Henry III and Eleanor of Provence. Was off on the Ninth Crusade when his father died. He spent much of his reign reforming royal administration (including the "model Parliament") and common law. He is known for his conquest of Wales and ongoing battles with Scotland. He also had to recover Aquitaine after Philippe IV of France (a Scottish ally) confiscated it. When the King died in 1307, he left to his son Edward II an ongoing war with Scotland and many financial and political problems due to the expense of military campaigns. He was devoted to his first wife Eleanor of Castile and built the Eleanor crosses in her memory.
